When can I enroll?

Most individuals must enroll during the Open Enrollment Period each year from November 1st to December 15th. You may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period based on certain life events (e.g., losing employer coverage). Short-term medical plans are available outside of the Open Enrollment Period.

How should I enroll?

The Washington Healthplanfinder is the online marketplace where you can purchase health plans and/or qualify for Medicaid. You must apply through the WA Healthplanfinder to receive tax credits and financial help.

What is covered?

All Qualified Health Plans must include at least these 10 essential health benefits:

  1. Outpatient care

  2. Emergency services

  3. Inpatient hospital care

  4. Maternity and newborn care

  5. Mental health and substance use disorder services

  6. Prescription drugs

  7. Rehabilitative care and devices

  8. Laboratory services

  9. Preventive and wellness services

  10. Pediatric services, including oral and vision care

What does it cost?

It's important to determine whether you qualify for tax credits and financial help. Monthly premiums are based on the following factors:

  • Age

  • Whether or not you smoke

  • Where you live

  • Household size and income

  • The health plan you select (e.g., deductible, HMO vs PPO, etc.)

Insurers cannot deny or limit coverage based on health history or pre-existing conditions.
